The wait is over!

Base mainnet is here and at Gelato, we can't help but join in the celebration of Onchain Summer! And things are just beginning to heat up - this week Gelato Relay and Web3 Functions deployed on the Base mainnet. The deployment will empower Base developers with Gelato's capabilities, paving the way for building feature-rich applications that are automated, gasless & off-chain aware.

The on-chain world is growing fast. With more than 230 million unique Ethereum addresses and more daily transactions on Layer 2s than on Layer 1s, it's apparent that more and more users are getting involved in on-chain activities. What's even more exciting is what users can do on-chain. Onchain solutions are changing how we think about digital art, music, loyalty programs, and even secure messaging.

So, what's driving this new era?

Base is a Layer 2 solution for Ethereum, making it easier and cheaper for developers to create decentralized apps on-chain. It reduces gas fees and speeds up transactions. Built on the OP Stack, Base combines Ethereum's security with affordability, staying open and accessible to all.

• Coinbase Synergy: Base empowers dapp creation with the opportunity to access Coinbase's vast ecosystem, including millions of verified users. This connection lets developers benefit from easy fiat pathways and seamless engagement surfaces, ensuring a seamless experience for users.

• Open Source: Base is built on the MIT-licensed, open-source OP Stack and collaborates closely with Optimism. It aims to be a decentralized, permissionless platform, welcoming anyone keen on shaping a rollup agnostic Superchain powered by Optimism.

Base is being launched as an Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) network on the OP Stack. Its main goal is to promote a decentralized crypto economy. The integration with the OP Stack ensures Base remains open, decentralized, and permissionless, and provides a platform where dapps can be built efficiently and securely.

Base's vision for a superchain

Base is committed to the vision of the superchain as an interoperable, interconnected network of multiple Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) solutions, enhancing scalability and efficiency. Instead of isolated rollups or L2 solutions operating in their bubbles, the Superchain aims to integrate them into a harmonious “mesh”, that jointly scale Ethereum.

Exciting news! Gelato Relay and Web3 Functions have just landed on the Base Mainnet. This means that Base developers can now tap into Gelato's superpowers to create applications that are off-chain aware and gasless, allowing users to pay gas fees in any token — or even pay the gas on a user’s behalf, and finally loop off-chain data on-chain.

Already, Gelato's suite of services, Gelato Automate, Gelato Web3 Functions, and the Gelato Relay, have showcased their potential on the Base Goerli testnet. A brief rundown of these services:
