The case for web3 native social media

As centralized platforms continue to build walled gardens around us, it becomes ever more imperative that we push back against web2’s efforts to monetize our personal preferences and social graphs by taking advantage of new opportunities to own (and even monetize) our content.

This is the promise of web3: to democratize the internet and give you control over your data, including giving you the options of if and how you want to monetize it. With over 4.7 billion users worldwide, social media is seen by many to be the best use case for blockchain technology as it promises to give users greater (or even total) control over their own content in spaces designed to actually reward their users instead of capitalizing on them

The insistence of web2 platforms at being the gatekeepers of the internet and being the sole arbiters of what is “acceptable” and what isn’t prompted the creation of KoruDAO– the first DAO-controlled Lens Profile where 282 Koru NFT holders can post from the KoruDAO account on Lenster and participate in the collective voice of the DAO.

The KoruDAO experiment opens up new opportunities on Lens. The Lens Protocol core team, in collaboration with the broader community, is always striving to build a better experience for users, creators, and developers for a future where everyone owns their own digital roots. A key part of improving the experience for creatives is fostering decentralized communities that connect over the same values. Allowing multiple people to post from a single Lens account opens up the possibilities of new types of communities being formed and content being curated, centered around the shared interests of creators.

KoruDAO is powered by Gelato Relay, a service that allows users and developers to get their transactions mined quickly, reliably and securely, without dealing with low-level complexities of blockchains. A key feature of this offering is the ability to provide users with gasless transactions, which allow end-users to interact with smart contracts and mint an exclusive Koru NFT and use Lens without paying for gas. This vastly improves the user experience, and will play a vital role in the ongoing mission to achieve mass adoption.

Anyone that meets the following criteria can mint a Koru NFT:

• Has a Lens account
• Follows KoruDAO on Lenster
• Has at least 300 followers on Lenster
• Has posted at least 10 times on Lenster

Tip: Lenster can take a few minutes to reflect actions on-chain which may mean you're not able to mint right away if you've just completed an action that would make you eligible. Be sure to follow KoruDAO early so that you're ready to go as soon as the mint opens!

Any wallet that holds a KoruNFT can participate in the DAO by posting from the Koru Lenster account.
